The world might see an upswing in the hunger crisis as the cooking oil price escalates.

What is the main cause of this problem?

The mid-war situation is making everything complicated. Global agricultural trade Indonesia has imposed a ban on palm oil exports to protect domestic availability. After the inflation in food prices, domestic shortage, and street protests, Indonesia imposed a ban on the export of palm oil from April 28, 2022.

Indonesia dominates the production of vegetable fats and oil all across the world. Indonesia is the biggest producer of palm oil and the most consumed edible oil all over the world.

China and India being the two most populous countries in their top buyers are likely to endure.

How is a ban on palm oil going to impact India?

India is a developing country with a population of billions. India relies upon imports of palm oil as it is a less expensive option for sunflower, soybean, and canola oil. India, the world’s biggest importer of soybean, palm, and sunflower oil encounters hefty inflation. Not just India alone, even the United States and other countries might see the worst consequences.

The ongoing war-like situation has roiled the trade of 80% of global sunflower oil which elevated the prices of alternative oils like palm and soybean oil. Palm oil is enormously used in products, biofuels, personal care items, etc.

Immense tension gyrates around the world as the ongoing situation gives no indication to pacify, and the prices of oil keep soaring. The World is experiencing Global oil turmoil. Along with this problem, health and environmental issues will increase too. With an upswing in oil prices, people will tend to reuse the oil, which is hazardous for both humans and the environment.

Ukraine, the world’s largest producer of sunflower seeds and oils announced last year to restrict the exploitation of sunflower oil which leads to inflammation in price in other countries. Since the drought in South America last year, soy oil prices have doubled.

Moreover, palm oil played a vital alternative to the other oils, but now that palm oil is facing a ban, the world might face obstacles.
